NYC Fashion Week: Spring/ Summer 2013

Everything is influenced by a runway show created by some designer. The fashion industry follows a trickle down method going from highest quality to the least. The designers just held their 2013 Spring/ Summer collections at NYC on September 7 to September 15, 2012. All of the designer’s collections are held way in advance, like by at least 6 months. Here are some pictures from the various Spring/ Summer collections:

Top 5: Braids

In high school I see a lot of different looks that girls try out on their hair. Some of them look really good and others are really bad with some people just as average students. I am just amazed at some of the students I see in the hallway with these really intricate hair dos. I get a big kick out of seeing how bad people can screw up their hair on the other end of the spectrum as well.
  1. Boho Braid: This braid is usually done on the side of your head and involves only a small portion of your hair. A Bohemian braid hairstyle is a perfect choice because: It can easily be done by yourself. It can camouflage the fringe of your hair while it is growing. It can camouflage greasy roots or messy hair.
  2. Waterfall: I think that this braid type is the ultimate fairytale look. It just takes some steps to make this braid. Grab a chunk of your hair from the front, bring it towards the back of your head and divide it into 3 pieces. Bring the bottom piece over the middle piece, and then the top piece over the middle piece (like starting a regular braid). Grab another piece of your hair from the top and add it to the top piece of your braid. Bring the top piece (the one you added to) over the middle piece. Grasp the bottom piece with your pinky. Drop the piece you have on your pinky, and get another piece from the bottom (to replace it). Bring the new piece over the middle piece. Continue doing this until you get halfway around your head and pin with a bobby pin. Do the other side, and now you're done.
  3. Fishtail: I love making fish tail braids. They are the easiest thing to do. All you do is part two large strands of hair hear the crown of the head. Place an elastic tie here in order to make a makeshift ponytail, then begin to braid the two strands together. Start by holding both strands separated in your left hand. Take a small strand from the right and cross it over. Follow this by switching the hands holding the hair and moving a strand of hair from the left to the right. Continue this until you have the braid as long as you like and place an elastic tie to hold it in place.
  4. Rope Braid: Begin by parting the hair like a fishtail braid. After you have done this take the right strand, twist it a little, then cross it over the left. Repeat this process with the new rightmost strand until the rope braid is as long as you like then tie it off with elastic.
  5. Side Braid: These braids are super cute and so easy to do. To create a side braid, start beneath the ear and separate three strands of hair, or more if you’re feeling adventurous. Weave these strands together by slipping one strand between the other strands.

Top 5: Teen Stores

Here are some of the stores that many teenagers I know like to shop at. All of these stores are right on trend for the season. No matter if it is a boutique shop or a nationwide store teenagers just focus on how cute the clothes are. One of the big things about selling to teens is that as long as it appeals to one it will appeal too many. The key is that all of these stores know how to make the store itself relatable to teenagers and the clothes are adorable as well.
1.      American Eagle: This is a store that is always changing their clothes based on the weather, location, and the fashion industry itself. American Eagle’s clothes have a very preppy style to them. Each season there are always lots of polos and cardigans for the men and women. Some of the main types of clothes they focus on for women are their AEO jeans, dresses, sweaters, and their blazers. Lately thought American Eagle has been really showcasing their scarves off. Most the men get a lot of sweaters, polos, and peacoat jackets.

      2.      Forever 21: This is a very trendy store that many people love to shop at. One of the big attractions of this store is that it is cheap and has nice clothes. It has a wide variety of clothes and accessories.  One of the things that I like is the different type of dressy clothes they have. Forever 21 make it easy to get a range of outfits all for a simple price.

3.      Fracesca’s Collection: I absolutely love this store. It has the most eclectic taste of gifts.  It ranges from baby items to measuring cups. But all of their clothes are very girlie, cute, and very wearable. All of their things have patterns on them and bright colors on the clothes. Most of Francesca’s Collections have big statement accessories from necklaces, earrings, rings, and bracelets.  I would highly recommend this store to anyone looking from amazing things, but I’d worn them that it is on the pricey side.

       4.      Victoria’s Secret: Almost all of girls in my school own at least something from this store. One of the biggest brands that Victoria’s Secret is known for is PINK. Pink is the best brand of sweats and lounge wear out there. If you’re just feeling like an off fashion day I would recommend to go with an insanely comfy pair of their sweat pants and tee shirts.

5.      H&M:  This store is very rocker chic is very rocker chic. The store carries lots of dark graphics tees and cool motorcycle jackets. H&M is a little harder to find sometimes. It is not in every next door mall. People like it because it is a cheap store and it is big, so that means it can hold a lot of items in one site. Lots of places within the store to shop around in.

Top 5: Jewelry

One of my favorite things that I like to include on all of my outfits is accessories. For example, I have to have some length of necklace on me at all time. Ever since I got my second hole pierced on both of my ears I had to get the new one pierced with a stud earring, so that has been my big thing with earrings lately. I just think that you need various kinds of accessories to really express yourself.

1.       Bracelets:
I love charm bracelets the best. I have one Camilia charm bracelets and I love all the things I can do with it.  I have probably 10 or 12 beads on there now and only need 5 more to fill it up. It has all these different beads on it that I think help to define who I am. The bracelet sort of tells a story about me in a way. I really like casual bracelets that you can just slide on that don’t require a lot of clasps. I usually think that those kinds are cuter anyway.

                                                     2.       Necklaces:
I like necklaces of all sizes. The only kind that I don’t like at all is choker necklaces. Some of my favorite necklaces are pendant necklaces because I don’t like things that are too flashy. Those kinds of necklaces are simple, easy, and quick to throw on. The trend for necklaces now is the big collar necklaces that are massive and make a statement. They are not my favorite kind personally to wear, but I think they are really cool by themselves.

3.       Earrings:
Earrings are by far my favorite thing to wear every day. No matter what is going in the mornings I make a point to grab some. I have really been into studs lately because after I got my second piercing I had to wear studs in my second holes. Also, for my job I can only wear studs in my ears if I want to wear any earrings at all. I really like silver medium- sized hoop earrings too, very classic pieces.

       4.       Rings:
Rings can mean a lot of different things. Say a boyfriend gives one to a girlfriends it could be very interesting because they’re not sure what it fully means. If 2 friends give them to each other it could be friendship rings, which are a little cute and corny. Rings are great little things that you can just keep stacking on fingers.

5.       Watches:
So many people like to wear watches because of the functionality they provide. For example, if you’re in class and can’t pull out your cell phone a watch is a great way to check the time. Companies even make really cute watches that function well, so you won’t have to be embarrassed about wearing one since they are a little old school. But I think that watches are starting to make a comeback with the new generation over having cell phones out all the time. I would really recommend getting some kind of fabulous watch to have.

Top 5: Face Products

One of the biggest things that I am always looking for are the best products to use on my face. I don’t always use some of these products religiously, but I think all of them can help. I am a big believer of just washing your face with anything at least once a day. I think that you have to wash your face at the end of the day to get all the bacteria out of your pores. In my opinion these are some of the top products to clean your face with. My favorite brand is Neutrogena, just because I find that it works the best on my skin.
1.      Face wash:
I think that you need to have a good face wash above anything else. People can have totally different opinions on products that they like, which I think is so great. Then you can get tips and brands from people to try out. My favorite face wash is the Neutrogena oil- free acne wash. I like this one because a) it has a fruity pink grapefruit scent, b) it seems to keep my face clean, and c) I can feel the salicylic acid working on my skin.

2.      Make up remover wipes:
The most important thing for any girl’s beauty regimen is taking her make-up off at the end of the night. Without taking off your make-up girls get the entire gunk left by the make-up seeped into the pores, which will start to cause blackheads.  My favorite make-up remover is Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes - 25 Count. I think that those wipes really clean off all the make-up on your skin.

3.      Moisturizer:
Moisturizer is important because that keeps your skin from drying out and getting dry patches.  When you get dry patches on your face it makes it very hard to put on make- up because your make-up will start to get flakey. The best moisturizer that I have found is Olay Complete All Day Moisturizer with Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 15– Sensitive. It is just very soft and hydrates my skin really well.
4.      Exfoliator:

These can be key when you’re starting to break out because the microbeads help to scrub off the breakouts. The salicylic acid is the major component in face products to help fight off acne. My favorite exfoliator/ scrub that I use is Neutrogena pink grapefruit foaming scrub.
5.      Toner:
It is designed to cleanse the skin and help with the clear appearance of pores. The strongest form of toner is an astringent. The astringent is a good thing to have along with a mild toner or face wash because astringents can help to clear up acne I find as well. A good toner that I use is Simple Soothing Facial Toner. This toner is a soft and clean feeling one.

Top 5: Boots

With the falls season fast approaching I thought I would be a smart idea to make my next segment about boots. Everyone has at least one kid of boots or if you have more than one you have a favorite. These seem like the top boots that everyone either has or wants to wear.

1.   Combat boots:
The new trend that everyone is wearing around is combat boots. You can pair these boots with a cute, girly dress to make it rocker chic. Or you can pair it with basic skinny jeans and your favorite tee shirt to add a cool twist to a classic style.

      2.   Knee- High (Equestrian) boots:
This is one of those styles that we have seen celebs doing forever it seems. They (or their stylist) know just the right outfit to make these boots look so cool and expensive. I have a pair of this kind that I got from Nordstrom last winter. I love them to death. Comfiest pair of boots out there I think aside from UGGS of course. My favorite way to wear them is just with my dark wash skinny jeans and a nice shirt.

3.   Rain boots:
With fall comes the rain. All around school I notice people bringing back the rain boots. I remember when we used to wear them when we all were little kids and had them in the brightest colors. We thought we were so cool back then turns out we were. It was fun to wear them when we're little and now it's the trend to wear the rain boots. I would recommend these types of boots with a skinnier pant (preferably jeans) and a scarf with a simple shirt underneath the scarf.

    4.   UGG boots:
Every girl and even some boys have a pair of these shoes. They are the comfiest and softest boots imaginable. I don’t know how someone thought to make slipper boots cool, but they did. I have 3 pairs of different uggs I think. Some many people can wear these boots, purely based on the comfort of them. Uggs come in so many different colors and styles that any shoes their company makes is awesome. I pretty much wear mine with any type of pant that I have. The best way I think though is putting them with a skinny jean or someway you can show them off.

5.   Cowboy boots:
Want to know a good way to express the country side in you? Just add a pair of cowboy boots to your wardrobe. These boots are obviously very popular in the south, but my school has a big country music following. That group of people loves to show off that side of them. Most of the girls like to do that by wearing cowboy boots when they can. I think the easiest way to wear the boots is by showing them off with a cute, frilly dress.
